The dual-band router offers you up to 600Mbps on the 2.4GHz and 1,300Mbps on the 5GHz frequency band.

The DIR-880L by D-Link has an outstanding performance compared to other AC1900 Wi-Fi routers. The fastest frequency band to use is the 5GHz, holds a speed of 526Mbps at close range, and scores 213Mbps when used up to 100-feet.

On the other hand, the 2.4GHz band is just as impressive with 168Mbps used at close range and 90Mbps at long range. Further, the 880L has no disconnect issues and performs well when using a portable drive larger than 1GB via the gigabit connection.

Setting up the DIR-880L

Before you set up the DIR-880L router you need the following system:

  • Apple MacOS X 10.4
  • Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, XP SP3
  • Windows 8

The setup process is smooth and has an easy-to-use wizard that walks you through the process. For the setup, you can do the following:

  • Start by unplugging the power to the Internet modem
  • Place the DIR-880L by D-Link router close to the modem and your computer or mount it to the wall
  • Set up the system according to your user manual and unplug the Ethernet cable from the modem and plug it into the back of the router
  • Use the cable you received and connect it to the yellow port on the back of the unit and the other end to your modem
  • Reconnect the power to the modem and also connect the router’s power and press the power button
  • Open an Internet Browser and enter the provider address and follow the instructions displayed on the wizard feature

Compared to other high-end wireless routers available on the market the DIR-880L by D-Link is great to use at home. The device may have a new interface that regular D-Link users have never used before, but if you want to build the best home network this one serves the purpose well.
